Chicago Area Police Stepping Up DUI Prevention Over St. Pat’s Weekend

It’s no secret that Chicagoans have
strong affinity for the St. Patrick’s Day holiday and enjoy the parade and
celebration throughout the weekend. This is a concern for area police
departments as there tend to be a larger amount of impaired drivers on the
road. The Chicago Tribune reported this week that the
Naperville, IL police are partaking in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled
Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns over St. Patrick’s Day
weekend. These two campaigns are used by police departments all over Illinois
during most major holidays when alcohol consumption increases.

The
goal of the campaign is to enhance traffic safety in our community and to
increase public awareness of the dangers of impaired driving and not wearing
seatbelts. This campaign will be directed at motorists who operate vehicles
while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and motorist observed with
seatbelt violations.
Officers
will be deployed throughout the city in an effort to identify and apprehend
offenders. This campaign will commence during the evening of March 14, 2013 and
continue through March 23, 2013.

It
is very simple folks. If you are going to be out drinking this weekend, do not
get behind the wheel. You will protect yourself and others.
